Decisions from the committee 28.11.2024

At the committee meeting on September 30, 2024, it was agreed that the variety CB Score would be preliminarily approved, as only two sets of results for malting and brewing were available at that time. Final approval was pending until the third set of results was provided.

The applicant, Carlsberg, has now supplied additional brewing data, and it has been decided to grant CB Score final approval as an approved variety. The additional data did not lead to any changes in the preliminary conclusions, which demonstrated that:

  • CB Score is an average yielding malting barley.
  • Micro malting, industrial malting, and industrial brewing showed good results.
  • A very low level of beta-amylase was observed.
  • CB Score has unique characteristics:
    • No DMS, enabling energy savings in both malting and brewing.
    • Double Null-LOX characteristics, which enhance better flavor stability.
    • Proant-free, enabling beer filtration without the use of stabilizing agents.

These distinctive attributes make CB Score a valuable addition to the list of approved malting barley varieties.
