The committee recommends which varieties that can move on to industrial testing. Hereafter it is up to the applicant to take decision about continuation in Danish Preferred (Industrial Test). In other words, there is no automatic going forward in the program and the applicant must carefully consider based on yield potential, agronomic performance, barley, and malt quality as well as European coverage, whether the variety has commercial potential as malting barley in Denmark. Please note that before final approval as Danish Preferred variety, a multiplication acreage of minimum ​​500 hectares will be required.

 

In the evaluation of the committee, the malt quality is considered higher than the agronomic features, as it is expected that the agronomic features are a key aspect of getting the variety on the market. The attached Index sheet shows data for the stress test of crop 2022. The standard varieties are Laureate and RGT Planet. The attached Index sheet shows that the standard varieties Laureate scored 29 and RGT Planet scored 26.

 

 

The following variety showed performance at similar or better level then the standards and are recommended to move forward in the program:

 

• KWS Curtis
• NOS 115.043-19

 

The variety Florence showed a lower performance compared to the two standards for crop 2022. As this trend was not confirmed in the micro malting from crop 2021 the committee recommends that the variety will go through stress test again for crop 2023 to determine if the variety can be recommend to move forward in the Danish Preferred Program.

 

 

The variety Firefox, which has completed the industry test, was for evaluation at the committee meeting. Based on the data presented at the meeting the committee decided to add Firefoxx to the Danish Preferred list of approved varieties.
